How to use it

How to use this AP HUG score calculator

Start with a timed practice exam or a teacher-scored practice set. Put your Section I multiple-choice correct count in the MCQ field, from 0 to 60. Then enter each free-response score from 0 to 7: FRQ 1 for the no-stimulus prompt, FRQ 2 for the one-stimulus prompt, and FRQ 3 for the two-stimulus prompt.

Target score

Check the gap to a 3, 4, or 5

Use the target selector when you want to check how far you are from an estimated 3, 4, or 5. You will see whether your current practice score is already in that estimated range or how many composite points may still be needed.

Scoring model

What the estimate shows

Enter scores from the AP Human Geography format: 60 MCQs, three FRQs, and equal weighting between multiple choice and free response. Your raw MCQ side is scaled to half of the result, and your FRQ raw total is scaled to the other half.

Composite

Compare the 0-100 and 0-120 views

Because public calculators use different composite scales, you get a simple 0-100 result first plus a compact 0-120 equivalent in the formula trace.

FRQ weight

Why FRQ points matter

AP Human Geography has only 21 raw FRQ points, but the section is worth 50% of the exam score. One FRQ rubric point can move the estimate more than one extra multiple-choice question.

Limits

Score bands, distribution, and limits

AP score distributions tell you how students performed in a given year, but they do not publish a guaranteed raw-score cutoff for your future exam. Use distribution data as context only. The AP HUG score calculator uses estimated ranges so you can plan, compare practice attempts, and build a cushion away from the next cutoff.

Unofficial estimate

Use the result as practice guidance

Do not treat this as an official College Board score report or AP Classroom result. It cannot tell you what score will appear on your official report or whether a college will grant credit.

FAQ

AP HUG score calculator questions

Is this an official AP Human Geography score calculator?

No. Use this as an unofficial practice estimate only. GradeCal is not affiliated with or endorsed by the College Board, and your official AP score report is the final authority.

What AP Human Geography exam format does this use?

The calculator follows the current AP Human Geography format: 60 multiple-choice questions worth 50% of the exam score and three free-response questions worth 50%. FRQ 1 has no stimulus, FRQ 2 has one stimulus, and FRQ 3 has two stimuli.

How are MCQ and FRQ scores weighted?

Your MCQ correct count and FRQ raw points each carry half of the estimate. MCQs scale to 50 points on the main 0-100 view, and the three FRQs add to 21 raw points before scaling to the other 50 points.

Why is my FRQ improvement worth so much?

There are fewer FRQ raw points than MCQ questions, but the FRQ section still carries half of the exam weight. One extra FRQ rubric point can move the scaled result more than one extra MCQ correct answer, especially near a cutoff.

Does AP Human Geography score distribution determine my cutoff?

No. AP Human Geography score distribution data shows the percentage of students who earned each AP score in a past year. It does not publish a fixed raw-score cutoff for your future exam. Treat score bands on this page as unofficial planning ranges.

Can this AP Human Geo score calculator predict my exact AP score?

No calculator can guarantee your exact future AP score. Use the estimate for practice planning, target setting, and spotting weak sections, while remembering that official scoring can vary by administration.

Can I save this as a PDF?

No custom PDF is generated. Use your browser's print feature to print the current scenario or save it with your browser's print-to-PDF option.

Is this different from a GPA calculator?

Yes. This APHG score calculator estimates an AP exam score from raw practice-test points. GPA tools estimate course averages, credits, and grade-point averages, which are separate tasks.
